How to travel around Madagascar? We got lost on Île aux Nattes which is a little island south of Sainte-Marie. It is so close to Sainte-Marie you could even swim, but the currents make it dangerous. So after staying in Ranomafana we went back to Antananarivo and stayed in a hotel close to the airpot. For 50.000 Ariary we got a little room including a free airport shuttle. We flew with Air Madagascar. The flight was ok! Quite expensive as the flights within Madagascar a really expensive (€250 per person). Air Madagascar can cancel your flights spontaneously. We heard that this could happen for sure. Maybe the give you a refund maybe not. Most of times not. So the company is not really reliable. Better play safe and have some buffer time when you plan your trip around Madagascar. Our flight was going and we flew from Antananarivo to Sainte Marie. Here we took a tuk tuk (5 minutes) to get to the point (south of Sainte-Marie) where small boats are taking you to Île aux Nattes (round about 15 to 20 minutes). For two people we paid 30.000 for the tuk tuk and boat. The island Île aux Nattes is a dream. We stayed there for 5 nights and it was wonderful. The sand is white, the water is crystal clear. The bungalows of the Sambatra Beach Lodge are amazing! One night costs round about 140.000 per person. Leaving Île aux Nattes was hard (emotionally) but easy to do. You can buy your ferry ticket on Sainte-Marie. Buy the one of El Condor (nice boats) which takes you to Mahambo. If you don't want to, then don't got to Ivongo! But it depends where you are heading next. We heard Ivongo is a place you could (should) skip. The ferry ticket costs 100.000 Ariary per person. For 10.000 Ariary extra you get a bus to Tamatave. Mahambo was nice to relax - nothing much to do here (99.000 Ariary per night - La Pirouge). By the way there is an ATM on Sainte-Marie, so you withdraw money if you need to! FORT MITCHELL, Ky. (Mike Berk) -- It's amazing what people can accomplish when they pour their heart and soul into something. Now, thanks to the efforts of the fourth graders at Blessed Sacrament, the concrete will soon be poured to begin construction on a much-needed school. The kids were on a mission, literally! They were given a goal and a deadline. Not only did they blow away both but brick-by-brick, they managed to astonish their teachers and parents with an incredible show of the human spirit. The students in Ft. Mitchell haven't experienced a lot of life just yet. But already they've helped to change lives a half a world away. Sister Mary Agnes Cashman can't help but get emotional when talking about the 4th graders at Blessed Sacrament. She asked them to lend a hand with a mission to benefit her order, generate enough money to purchase the 33,000 bricks it will take to build a suitable school in poverty stricken Madagascar. There, school is often taught in a shack with no chairs or desks.Their goal was 60 so they have more than enough to build the entire school complete with furniture. The kids weren't asked to give up something for Lent. Instead they were asked to give something of themselves. The very first day I told them you are not allowed to go home and say, 'Mom I want a dollar to buy bricks,' said Sister Cashman. So what did they do to earn all of this brick money? Lainee Mack wasn't scrubbing porcelain, but with a new addition to the family, and dad kind of tied up with that basketball team of his, she may have had the most important chore of all!Lainee said, I babysat my brother, who is only four months.Had to be a big help to mom who was often times helping to get the symbolic bricks up on the wall. Now they're lighting up about what it is they've actually accomplished. Now a new school in Madagascar will be built with love and of course all of the bricks! A group of sisters departed for France Thursday, May 7, to "hop" a connecting flight to Madagascar. They will hand-deliver the brick money so work can begin soon.
